Table Lamps Lighting Moving Forward

November 28th, 2010 No comments

My trip to India was a smashing hit. The trip was on business to locate and photograph modern and ancient artifacts of interior design value. The trip took me to the center of India, south of its capital, to a city called Rajasthan. [I:http://buildernews.galanter.net/files/2010/11/JackPowell0.jpg]

My assignment on this trip was to go in search of designs to be used in our summer collection of interior light fixtures. The piece was supposed to be anchored around movable lighting like floor lamp lighting and table lamps lighting. Specifically, I was in search of the British-India colonial feel of elegance and intricately designed table lamps. Everyone knows that ornaments and lamps found in this part of the world were exotic, but I had a pleasant surprise when I saw its treasures for my self.

To appreciate table lamps, you have to relinquish your utilitarian view of table lamps and adopt a view that there is tremendous artistry and elegance in hand crafted designs. These designs eventually are the catalyst to a serene and cozy atmosphere. There are two portions of the table lamp that provide the opportunity to set the tone of the room. Here in Rajasthan, the base consists of hand etched silver complimented by the lamp shade of pure Tibetan woven silk.

There was one table lamp that just absolutely astounded me. This table lamp was about three feet tall with a base made sterling silver with intricate carvings, it told the story in detailed pictures of the Rajashtan Prince from birth to puberty, his early ascension to the throne and his teenage marriage up to his eventual demise. Sixty years of a nobleman’s life delicately hand carved. The story starts at the base and spirals its way through the top. There were two of them sold as a pair and they were the only one like that. A unique pair of table lamps.

Table lamps are great in the living hall, the walk way, in the master bedroom or guest room. The pair I described above will be a fabulous master bedroom piece. When it was engraved and made, it was obviously used as a wood burning lamp. Since then it has been retrofitted with the necessary wiring and fittings to be an elegant electric table lamp.

I eventually bought the pair of table lamps lighting the front of the store, after much persuasion – not those two I wrote about, but another pair that was a fraction of the price. But I did manage to take a bunch of pictures of it. That was free.

The Art of Designing Pendant Lighting

November 23rd, 2010 No comments

Interior design and Home Lighting is actually a private option depending on private taste and spending budget. It’s as personal as your toothbrush and it is not up to other people, including extended family members to comment disparagingly on interior style suggestions that don’t essentially please the, After all you do not make snide feedback of their plastic-wrapped couch do you? So take DIY tasks a action additional and spruce up your living space together with your own handy work, that includes putting up pendant lighting.

Pendant lighting and Table Lamps tends to make a extremely sweet addition to your house, regardless of season. Prior to we get any further lets just consider a moment to explain what we mean and refer to pendant lighting. You can pretty much do a quick lookup to find pendant lighting. They are light fixtures the hang – like pendants – thus the name. Pendant lighting are a cross between a chandelier along with a flush mounted ceiling light. Think of it this way, it’s like you took a flush installed light fixture and extended it through the ceiling by a few feet.

There are more than just a few styles you need to operate with. Particularly if you go on the net and go to your favorite lighting retailer or did a search, you will probably be spoilt for options. Pendant lighting is really a genuine deal with that will increase the visual equity of your house. Pendant lighting goes nicely in places precisely where the ceiling is higher.

If there’s a large open area in the ceiling for example slim and tall corridors or hallways, using flush installed lighting is not aesthetically optimum. The use of pendant lighting however, shortens the length in between the light and the ground and increases the length between the light and in addition the ceiling. This outcomes in a mild tome close to the ceiling, illuminating it enough to know it’s there although casting a bright flood of light close to the ground.

Pendant lighting is reminiscent with the historic roman types precisely where cast iron chains connected in the direction of the ceilings held heavy cauldrons stuffed with burning wooden to offer light. This idea of lightning freed up space on the ground especially in the center of the room precisely where there might not have been any pillars. When there were pillars, these same pendant lightnings hung from trusses. The fit of ceiling pendant lighting utilized on walls and pillars with the use of trusses remain a design that is extensively utilized even till today.

Pendant Lighting could be hung through the ceiling by anchoring it in the direction of the ceiling beams.

The Ideal Chandelier

November 8th, 2010 No comments

There is tremendous confusion among lay people when it comes to chandeliers. Believe it or not, even now in the twenty-first century, there are those who do not know what it is, or worse, think they do but really don’t. So lets get that out of the way before we proceed. What is a chandelier? A chandelier is an indoor lighting arrangement that is always, without exception, hung from the ceiling. It varies from simple to elaborate and serves one purpose to brighten the room while casting a rainbow of colors refracted through the many prisms, chandeliers inherently have. The genius of a chandelier is that it is meant to mimic the sun in terms of providing all the colors of white light thereby giving the eyes a pleasant feel of natural light, unlike the intense direct white light of incandescent bulbs which are harsh on the eyes.

The standard chandelier lamp that comes to mind is not Home Lighting but something grand and gigantic floating above, nearly UFO-like. But in truth, dimension – doesn’t matter. A chandelier lamp can be something little that matches in a metropolis apartment, or dorm room for that make a difference, to something big. But what makes it a chandelier is that it’s more than 1 department of light and that it’s crystal shapped glass, plastic and yes, even real crystals, to refract the light just because the prism we used in science class.

Chandeliers and Table Lamps serve a second purpose – one that is less obvious than its pedestrian function of just shedding light. In fact you don’t need a chandelier, if all you want to do is illuminate an area, you just need a bulb, or candles to accomplish that. Chandeliers other purpose, the one that is not so obvious, is that the chandelier is ornamental. Just as a Christmas tree is just a tree when there are no ornaments. So too are houses not homes until a chandelier adorns the ceiling with its branches and crystals.

Chandeliers do 1 a lot more thing, as though they don’t already do sufficient. They provide a little colour in the direction of the plain light of ordinary bulbs and lamps. A room is just a space, a lot like a canvas is only a canvas until the artist sprinkles it with color, and in the case of the space, the chandelier lamp sprinkles the space with the colors with the rainbow. But mind you it’s not as if a two year previous took a paint brush and splattered the canvas with seven colours, the impact of the chandelier lamp – a great chandelier lamp, is as though one with the greats imparted his talent to the canvas of our house. And all of us know the existence it breathes into out lives when a touch of color is sprinkled , at any time so gently.

The closing chapter in any tale about the grandeur of chandeliers would have to include a word about the soul of chandeliers. If you have ever experienced a chandelier or ever seen one you would know the effect it has on elevating your spirit. But the unfortunate fact remains that most people attribute the spirit-lifting effect of the chandelier and its grandeur to the size, and that is absolutely inaccurate.

The life of a Chandeliers and also the impact it exudes, comes from the harmony it creates within its surrounding. A suitable chandelier, regardless of how small, goes farther when accomplishing its real objective – to flirt with the soul.

The New Design Desk Lamp

November 2nd, 2010 No comments

This may arrive like a shock to you, but everybody loves desk lamps. Anything that can illuminate a table, or an entire room for that matter, and make it appear like it’s value ten times it’s accurate worth is actually a effective thing. Some individuals invest their entire lives collecting vintage desk lamps and have them displayed almost everywhere in the house. Some even buy unique tables just so they can match it with their desk lamps.

Having the proper desk lamps goes a long way in perking up the room or the nook. Desk lamps Home Lighting that fill the home or the room tend to give a more cerebral atmosphere, reminiscent of en Einstein-esque abode. Desk lamps are all the rage these days and it is a rarely known perception that the more advanced education a person has the more likely he or she would favor desk lamps or as part of the decor.

Finding truly vintage desk lamps is value the difficulty. You have to be in the body of mind that the older the find, the higher the score. Start going to yard sales and scouring online auction sites. It was value it to me as I’m going to have this desk lamp for the rest of my life then pass it on to my kids. If my desk lamp is currently about 80 years old, think how old it might be by the time my child inherits it. So here is how 1 would go about picking up a good deal on an antique desk lamp.

First, don’t pay for someone’s prime real estate. If you shop at a fancy shopping center in a major city, you might be paying too much for whatever you are looking to purchase. Guess what? The overhead that is being charged in that shopping center is going to be built into the price of your purchase. This includes desk lamps. I just drive by premier developments that have antique shops. Ever wonder how these shops can afford their high rent prices? That’s right. From your purchases. Look at buying your antique desk lamps online or from places that aren’t in the fanciest parts of town. The same desk lamps can often be found for much better prices.

Next, Do as much of the fixing up yourself. Now this option isn’t for everyone. If you have some basic technical skills (and I mean real basic), take a look at refurbishing a desk lamp yourself. But in the event you do manage to find a desk lamp that is an oil burning lamp or Ceiling Fans and you need to retrofit it to an electric one, send it to the electrician. Not only could you electrocute yourself you could potentially be putting together your very own fire hazard. If you do go to an electrician, they will undoubtedly charge you time and labor to modify your lamp. If you can do it yourself, go for it: you might be surprised at how good you really are at assembling things. Afterward, you can even look at your work with pride knowing the effort you put into it. This is a great option for those of us who have more time than money.

Finally, saving someone else’s rent charge and doing it yourself are great pieces of advice but don’t apply if the Desk Lamps is beyond repair. Sometimes its just not even an antique, it may just be old. In that case drop it off at your nearest recycling center.

You’ll see that the space can instantly be transformed into something more pleasing to the eyes. Maintain only those that you need. Afterwards, doing some major cleaning will make your living space look, feel and smell fresher.

Make use of the furnishings you already have, instead of buying new pieces. There are times when all you need is to rearrange them for an instant makeover. Moreover, to make them look like they’re new, paint them a new color. Exchanging the pieces of furniture placed in different rooms can give them a fresh appearance.

But if you really have to procure new furnishings, fret not. That’s because there are plenty of ways to do so without overshooting your budget. You can drop by garage sales, flea markets and second-hand stores. It’s also possible to do so using the internet. When it comes to the kitchen and dining area, repainting the cabinets can do wonders. The same is true with changing the hardware, like the knobs. Look for other things which can use some smartening up. Maybe the dining table can look great with a new runner.

As with the bathroom, the fixtures already in there can be quite costly to replace. That’s why there’s nothing much you can do with it. But fret not, as all you need is to bring in some decorative elements in there. Colorful bars of soap and scented candles can create excitement. Place new rugs on the floor and large mirrors on the walls to transform the bathroom.

Try not to give yourself a deadline when redecorating your home. Add new pieces or apply new ideas as your time and budget will allow you. By following the home improvement tips above, you will see that giving your home a brand new look need not break the bank.
